Abstract

Skin is an index on one’s physical and mental health. The prevalence of skin disease is increasing day by day. The reasons are attributed to the life style and food habits, invention of chemicals, occupations which are the gifts of modernization. Skin diseases are having social impacts as it affects one’s personnel and family life.

Traditional knowledge of health care is gaining momentum in the present scenario. Ayurveda recommends a great number of herbal remedies for all chronic conditions.

The study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Aragwadha on Dushivisha with special reference to Contact dermatitis.

The study was designed as randomized controlled; the 20 participants were distributed in to study and control groups by simple random sampling. Patients in study group received Aragwadha decoction internally and its lepa externally while those in the control group received Dushivishari agada of about forty-five days and were followed up for two months.  The responses of both groups were assessed using various clinical and quantitative parameters and analyzed statistically.

Highly significant results obtained in objective clinical parameters like itching, (p<0.001). Significant results observed in oozing, vesicles, burning sensation (p<0.05). Significant reduction in Lymphocytes (p<0.001) and Eosinophils (p<0.05) count, indicate that Aragwadha is highly effective in Contact dermatitis. Risks of side effects were not observed in both the groups.

Objective results reinforce that Aragwadha is clinically effective in Contact dermatitis.
