Abstract

In this modern era of fast food culture, people are often involved in viruddhahara which causes many diseases, of which twak rogas are more common. Viruddhahara is equated to visha or gara as it may lead to death or various diseases.  So vishahara drugs should be utilized in the treatment of Viruddhahara janya diseases. Nimbanilavakadi kwatham is used by practitioners of kerala in visha chikitsa. This work is to study the vishahara property of Nimbanilavakadi kwatham in Viruddhaharajanya Vicharchika.  The study included the pharmacognostical study of the drugs and a clinical trial in Viruddhaharajanya Vicharchika.

The study was carried out in the Govt. Ayurveda College Hospital, Poojapura, Thiruvananthapuram.  The total sample population, constituting twenty patients between twelve and sixty years were randomly divided into study and control groups.  Cases where it was difficult to elicit dietetic history, suffering from congenital disorders, systemic diseases such as pakshaghata, prameha and skin diseases other than Vicharchika were excluded.

Nimbanilavakadi Kwatham was given internally to the study group and Patola katurohinyadi Kwatham to the control group for a period of thirty days.  They were followed up for fifteen days. The statistical analysis of the results showed that Nimbanilavakadi Kwatham is comparatively significant(P<0.01) in relieving kandu and srava.  Comparison of the percentage levels of efficacy of both the drugs shows that study drug is comparatively significant(P<0.05) which suggests that Nimbanilavakadi Kwatham is effective than Conventional kashaya in Viruddhaharajanya Vicharchika.
