Abstract
In this modern era, lifestyle diseases like cancer, diabetis, infertility etc., are increasing day by day. One of the reasons is wrong food habits. Ayurveda also insisting on good food habits Caraka has told about eighteen types of virudhaharas. One of them is Matra virudha. Acharyas explained Madhu & Ghrutha in equal quantity as an example for matra virudha.
When combining some food substances we should maintain specific ratio otherwise it becomes incompatable. According to Acharya combination of Madhu and Ghrutha in equal quantity becomes matra virudha
As a preliminary step an experimental evaluation was conducted to prove this concept. Study included both literary and acute, sub acute toxicity studies. Acute study showed no toxic effect on albino rats. Sub acute study was done for fifteen days. Heamatological, biochemical and histopathological analysis were carried out.
Heamatological, biochemical values were within the normal range, and no significant changes were found. Histopathology results were normal. Liver, kidney, spleen, lungs, heart and stomach sections showed normal histological findings. So it was observed that Mathu & Ghrutha in equal quantity in vol/vol with maximum dose does not produces toxic effects in albino rats.
